This little guy is over 5 years in age. He was close to a year in age when I bought him and that was during the summer of 1997! He has been moved from province to province during that time, and he didn't skip a beat! Although the others I have kept were not as lucky. These guys are only supposed to live up to 2 years. Guess it's because he's picky and wouldn't eat the pet store newt food. Okay people, newts like to chase their 'prey' why make a sinking pellet?! I don't understand it either. But he is perfectly content with the blood worms and dried flies that he gets instead. All that protein is probably what has kept him alive so long. Though he's a dusty grey colour instead of black now, but I don't care. I'm sure some of you out there think he must have been replaced... Nope, when I bought him I didn't realize that he had a large triangular piece of his tail missing on the top (dorsal) portion. The tail has lost some of it's height over the years, but the distinguishing feature remains!!
